liberatory somatics is emergent medicine
Our SOMA is the fullness of our being: the unified connection of our physicality, our consciousness, our sensory-emotional experience, and the realms of our ancestry, soul, and spirit.
Our soma is our aliveness; our inhabitance in our body and on the earth.
Liberatory somatics is a practice of becoming more free —engaging all facets of our beingness through conscious relationship with what we experience, feel, and sense.
We are living at the end of the world.
The painful reality is: our climate is collapsing. The infrastructures that dictate our lives through governance, commerce, and social order are crumbling. What's been controlled through domination, extraction, and inequity, is unraveling.
In this time of immense instability and unknown, there also is an unwavering intelligence in the Earth, in the seasons, in the flora and fauna of each unique bioregion.
Nature always moves towards balance, and the solutions we need — individually and collectively — are unfurling through every seed and sprout, and likewise, flowering through our minds and hearts.
Emergent medicine is what asks to evolve through us in service to love, truth, and justice, in devotion to beauty and the sacred. It arises through our visions and dreams, and manifests in our discoveries and innovations. It moves through our hands and flows through our tongues.
Another world is possible, and together we can make it real.*
*Gratitude to Saul Williams for engraving his version of this line into my heart many years ago.
note from Muse:
In 2008, I moved from the Pacific Northwest to the high desert of New Mexico and opened my first private practice as a bodyworker. Medicine of the Feminine was the name that came to me as I crafted my very first website. At the time, I can't say I understood the layers of meaning in these words. Here's what I've learned since:
medicine
The dynamic force in all creation that inherently moves life towards balance; a living source of wisdom available in the heart of humanity and in the natural world.
Medicine is that which heals, even in death.
the feminine
The place from which intuition arises; it is the chord connecting humans to the Earth. Our feminine (yin) aspect listens, and is guided by dreams and a knowing in our bones.
It is the still voice within us that speaks the truth.
Medicine of the Feminine is:
that our bodies + nervous systems are extentions of nature + the earth
• an honoring
uniquely available through the root of our bodies + generative systems
• a study
where we utilize the everyday, the “ordinary”, to access the extraordinary
• a living school
of being in relationship with ourselves that instructs + guides our living
